Reports about running other Unix systems e.g. BSD, Solaris are welcome, too.
And don't miss the general resources section at the bottom, containing links
to utilities (mostly available under GPL
), community efforts, HOWTOs and FAQs.

Creative Nomad JukeBox KIO::Slave(http://sourceforge.net/projects/kionjb/) is a KDE ioslave for the Creative Nomad JukeBox MP3 player. The NJB appears as a filesystem from within Konqueror, allowing MP3s to be copied to and from the NJB easily. Playlists appear as text files which can be edited.
KZenExplorer(http://kzenexplorer.sourceforge.net/) allows to manage the tracks and playlist on any mp3 player supported by libnjb(http://libnjb.sourceforge.net/) . It also allows to create smart playlists, add ratings and select categories for the tracks on the player.
Nomaedia(http://nomaedia.sourceforge.net/) is a content management GUI for the Creative Nomad Jukebox. It aims to ease the management of the music on all models.
Gnomad(http://gnomad2.sf.net/) is a GTK+ client program for the NOMAD Jukebox(http://www.nomadworld.com/products/jukebox_zen/), using libnjb and id3lib to handle the jukebox communications and ID3 tagging procedures.
Gnomadic(http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/gnomadic) is a graphical user interface to transfer MP3s to the Creative Nomad II/c MP3 player. It has the ability to re-encode the selected MP3s to a lower bitrate before transfer to the device so that you don't have to have 2 versions of an MP3 on your machine (high bitrate for burning, and lower bitrate for the MP3 player).
muvo_playlist(http://people.hsc.edu/students/morgand/muvo_playlist/) is a script to copy random MP3s to a Creative NOMAD MuVo.
Nomad II MG software(http://www.swiss.ai.mit.edu/~cph/nomad.ssp).
nomadii-gui(http://www.student.cs.uwaterloo.ca/~pgbaldwi/nomadii-gui/) is a graphical user interface for the nomadii driver developed by Gabriel Gomiz. The nomadii driver allows for the transfer of music files to the Nomad II, IIc, and II MG portable MP3 players. The nomadii-gui is a Java application that uses the nomadii driver to easily transfer MP3 files to a Nomad II device. It also supports re-encoding of MP3s using LAME, which is useful for fitting your high-quality MP3 files onto your Nomad's limited memory (the offical Creative software doesn't even have this feature!).
This is a driver(http://www.lysator.liu.se/~backstrom/nomad-driver/) for the Creative Nomad Jukebox, Nomad II and Nomad II MG.
The Nomad II Linux Driver(http://nomadii.sourceforge.net/) supports the Creative Nomad II, IIc and II MG under Linux running USB for file transfers and other operations.
SoundBlaster Live! - livetools(http://www.clarkson.edu/~evanchsa/software/livetools/index.html) is a small set of utilities to allow easy access to Creative's SoundBlaster Live!Drive IR's remote control. Included is an XMMS plugin which demonstrates the functionality of the decode daemon - liveird. Future plans: Soon the software suite will contain code to read remote control definitions from an XML configuration file and send LIRC compatible messages to the plugins.
NomadSync(http://nomadsync.sourceforge.net/) is a utility that makes it possible to keep the MP3 collection on your Creative Nomad Jukebox synchronised with the MP3s on your PC.
MuVOn(http://muvon.sourceforge.net/) is a GUI application for managing files and playlists on Creative MuVo mp3 players. It simplifies the process of mounting and unmounting the player, adding and removing files, and creating playlists for it.
Neutrino(http://neutrino.sourceforge.net/) , formally GnomeDAP, is a GNOME based application for managing your Creative Nomad / D.A.P Jukeboxes. Support for talking to the hardware is provided by utilising libnjb, which as Creative will not give out the relevant information, is a reverse engineered user space driver for Linux and *BSD.
DJSync(http://dantastic.org/djsync/) allows users to synchronizes MP3s between a Dell Pocket DJ/ Creative Zen and their computer.
libnjb(http://sourceforge.net/projects/libnjb) is a C library and API for communicating with the Creative Nomad JukeBox and Dell DJ digital audio players under BSD, Linux, Mac OS X and Windows. The protocol these devices use is presumably called PDE (Portable Digital Entertainment protocol) at Creative. Newer devices using the Microsoft MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) are NOT supported.
Creative Nomad JukeBox Music Streamer(http://sourceforge.net/projects/njstream) Want to play your Creative NJB (or other libnjb-compatible device) tracks through your soundcard? Want to access the thing from a browser? Well that's what this project aims to provide, via a specialized HTTP server and two browser-based GUIs!
