The PMA400 Software Development Kit (SDK)(http://www.archos.com/products/overview/pma_400_sdk.html) targets experienced developers with a firm knowledge on developing software for Qt/Embedded and Qtopia based devices. It is not meant as a general introduction into C and C++ programming for Embedded Linux. This SDK only targets the PMA400 device.
Comes with a USB interface and dual stereo line out allows you to connect to your home stereo. Linux drivers available here(http://bjorn.haxx.se/isd200/).
Rockbox(http://www.rockbox.org/) is an Open Source replacement firmware for mp3 players. It runs on a number of different models:

is a project to generate the lib.jbm file used by the Archos
GMini 120 and 220 music players. This allows the full functionality of
these players to be used by people running Free operating systems such as
GNU/Linux.

The PMA is a portable video/audio player and recorder with built-in Wi-Fi, a 30 GB harddisk and PDA-functionality that uses Linux/Qtopia as an operating system.
