On this laptop I have installed Novell/SuSE Linux Professional 8.1 from CD (installation from DVD didn't work, this seems to be a bug in the distribution).
The default configuration (with 3D support included) didn't work, I got a very flickering display. Reconfiguration with
SaX2!) from the text console and a reboot made X work in 1024x768 resolution. Afterwords i reconfigured X again with
SaX2 and switched the resolution to 1400x1050.
Worked out-of-the-box with the driver snd-intel8x0 from ALSA.
Worked out-of-the-box with the driver e100/eepro100.
A Conexant HSF modem which works with the current drivers: hsflinmodem-5.03.03.L3mbsibeta02101001-1. Had to install the SRPM, because the SuSE-RPMS from Conexant are meant for SuSE 8.0 and did not work. Also the RPMS from the SuSE-CDs did not work with the hardware.
APM works in a way: you cannot suspend or standby but it recognizes the power-source and you can shut down properly. The display is not turned off when you close the lid. Perhaps you should give ACPI a try.
Nothing special here: SuSE configured the device correctly to use ide-scsi.
The controller is usable as SIR via ttyS2, though I was not able to see a mobile phone with
irdadump when "connected" to it.
Worked out-of-the-box with the driver Yenta.
You should be able to run the driver for the Synaptics Touchpad(touchpad_driver.html) , which gives you a whole lot of new features.
The mouse button below the touchpad might work like a scroll-wheel mouse with the appropriate options in the XF86Config file.
